Our Lead Full Stack Developer, Felipe, discusses the importance of owning in-game items
Throughout this series of interviews, members of the team will discuss everything from Blast Royale to cryptocurrency to art and game development. We begin this series of interviews with our lead Full Stack Developer, Felipe Rybakovas, who shares his thoughts about the game and the importance of owning in-game items.
- Please introduce yourself, what is your career background, and what do you do at FLG?
Hello! My name is Felipe, and I’m originally from Brazil. I’ve worked across Europe for the last four years in different companies and projects in multiple positions. After nine years working for IBM, I’ve decided to venture into the startup life. I’ve had the opportunity to work for Printify, one of the most successful unicorns in Europe and with games using video streaming technologies at Real Dealer Studios. Here at FLG, I’m a Lead FullStack Engineer and Product Owner of the Marketplace. I see myself as a swiss knife ready to help in any way I can. There is no code we cannot pull off.
2. What do you think makes Blast Royale unique from other blockchain projects?
Our main motto between ourselves is that we are a fun-first studio. We have a very dedicated and experienced team which is taking the highest priority to make the game fun and enjoyable while at the same time giving the user full ownership of the items they acquire for the game. While most so-called web3 games outside at the moment are very idle games focusing only on tokenomics, our main core objective is the game itself, and we work hard to make it fun, and we use blockchain to expand the experience of playing the game.
3. Why do you believe that owning in-game items is important to users?
Gamers nowadays spend quite a good amount on digital goods for their games. Unfortunately, we, as players, are in the hands of the game studios when it comes to ownership of such assets. Don’t matter if you had spent $10.000 on that single skin you loved so much for your character. The next day the studio decides that this skin should not exist anymore, you can only accept it. The web3 is changing that and finally giving you the ownership of your asset in a digital world. With everything moving to the cloud, laying on servers that you don’t even know where they are and with the possibility for them to cut the connection at any moment, this is a huge break of paradigms. We want to give this power back to the user, where they can decide what they want to do with the assets they bought with so hard-earned money without limitations or constraints. What is yours is yours.
4. In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges users will face while playing a blockchain game such as Blast Royale?
I believe that the shift of mentality will be the biggest challenge for most players who still have not delved into the web3 space and will have a bit of confusion to truly understand that they are owners of all that is in their inventory. But worry not. We are here to help you do this transition in the best way possible. As I’ve said before, we are a fun-first studio going to a very different position than most of the other web3 games are at the moment. Our game will work the same as others you have been playing in the past on your mobile or PC and not a strange idle game where you cannot understand the rules.
5. Do you have any information on what exciting features we can expect from the upcoming full Battle Royale version?
I don’t want to spoil too much of the fun you guys are about to have, but I can say that the team is working hard to make the map interesting, wacky and engaging. We are planning different ‘biomes’ inside the map that gives a different feel every time you land in a different zone. It’s a very different game from the Deathmatch, so it will be interesting to see you guys coming fresh for this experience. We can’t wait to see the feedback and tournaments the community will create around it!
6. If you had one word to describe Blast Royale, what would it be?
There is no single word that can describe this game, so I’ll need to create a new one. It’s BLASTELICIOUS.
