Interview with our Blast Royale Game Design Director, Nikita Denissov

Throughout this series of interviews, members of the team will discuss everything from Blast Royale to cryptocurrency to art and game development. We begin our second interview with our Lead Designer, Nikita Denissov, who shares his thoughts about promoting fairness and equality among Blast Royale Players.

Who are you, what is your career background, and what do you do at FLG?

Hi, I’m Nik, game design director at First Light Games. I’m in the game development industry for more than 10 years. I started as a gameplay programmer on freemium mystery puzzle adventures, but quickly expanded my area into game design as well, because just programming wasn’t enough for me. I’ve spent quite a few years at Wargaming transitioning my skills and expertise into free to play field. That’s where I met Anil. And a couple years ago he invited me to join First Light.

We aren’t a big team, so my day to day is quite diverse. I keep track of feature development to guide and help with advice, answers and feedback when needed; I communicate with partners when design related questions arise; together with design team we create specifications for new systems and improvements, we balance the game and quite often we even code some smaller features on our own; I’m also in charge of tokenomics and design of the broader Blast Royale ecosystem. At some point I was also a community manager but luckily now we have a wonderful team of people who are way better than me at this.

What do you think makes Blast Royale unique from other blockchain projects?

We put the fun and gameplay first. And we have a team with years of experience of making games. Very few blockchain projects have that.

Why did Blast Royale choose the Polygon network over other networks?

Our tech team were evaluating multiple options and Matt, our CTO, can elaborate on that topic. I’ll just mention a few things: Polygon came out as a winner because it is proof of stake, it had use cases proven to be working, had a pool of developers knowing it, and it passed a test of some time. But we think the future is in the support of multiple chains, not just one. We need to make Blast Royale available where our players are, and remove additional barriers if possible for a better experience

In regards to $BLST tokens, what kind of utility would they provide within the Blast Royale ecosystem?

Utilities that will be available at launch or shortly after are:

• trading NFT equipment on Blast Royale marketplace
• replicating NFT equipment
• upgrading NFT equipment
• buy-in into tournaments

This is just a start though because moving forward we will be adding more cool features and systems to interact with.

Players of Play-To-Earn games are often rewarded for upgrading, leveling up, and purchasing in-game items, which leaves out new players. How does Blast Royale promote fairness and equality among its players?

Battle royale’s set of rules provide many ways to success and not all of them depend on the power of your equipment.
We will also have systems of advantages and disadvantages that will allow players to strategically win over opponents that may be technically stronger.
The matchmaking and system of trophies and leagues will also help us to organize matches where all players get a proper challenge according to their skill and equipment.

In recent years, many large platforms have been compromised by hackers, causing many losses to users. How is the current security system within Blast Royale safe from hackers?

We take security seriously that’s why our code is audited and we don’t rush things without proper checks. We also incorporate protection steps into our own accounts and social platforms to minimize chances of an attack/hack from that angle as well.
