The Battle Royale mode was released late last month, following the successful beta testing of Deathmatch, and we are pleased to announce that a new update will be released tomorrow with many improvements and bug fixes.

Before we take a deep dive into these changes, let’s start with what is Battle Royale Mode?

Battle Royale ⚔

A fun, frenetic, and adrenaline-filled mobile game where 30 players compete for the blast champion title using multiple weapons and skills.

As this mode is designed for beta testing, it is off-chain, so no marketplace is involved.

  • No registration
  • No equipment
  • NFTs aren’t needed
  • No Deathmatch available in any form
  • Battle Royale can be played online for trophies, no Craft Spice present or can be earned
  • Custom Battle Royale is available to play with no rewards or trophies

Compared to Deathmatch, this mode has some key mechanical differences listed below that make it enjoyable to play!

Chests 🎁

Chests are your primary way of finding loot during Blast Royale. There are 5 tiers of loot chests that can be found throughout the map.

Each of these chests will contain vital resources and equipment to fuel your fight for supremacy on the island.

The first chest you open will always contain some kind of weapon for you to use, so if you find yourself in need of a gun, more ammo, or a quick refill of your shields, look no further than the loot chest!

Weapon slots 🔫

There are 3 slots for weapons on your player. The first slot is reserved for your hammer, your second slot is reserved for your primary, and your third slot is for your offhand weapon.

Your primary weapon is the first weapon you pickup, and will always be your NFT weapon if you have one equipped. You CANNOT change your primary weapon at any point.

Your offhand weapon is in your second slot, and can be swapped out at various points throughout the game. It is always the second weapon you pickup.

You have a total of 5 special slots that can be used once per game. Simply put, you can only use 5 specials per game. Swap between each of your weapons and your hammer to use these specials. This system will likely change quite soon.

Weapons and ammo 🎯

In Battle Royale, you can carry up to 2 weapons at a time. Each of these weapons will draw from the same ammo pool, but firing different kinds of weapons will cost different amounts of ammo per shot.

For example:

Small and large ammo pickups can be found throughout the map which will replenish 15% and 30% of your total ammo pool respectively.

Accuracy and movement 🔍

Weapons have been updated in this new version of Blast Royale! They have a number of new attributes that they did not have previously. The most important of which is accuracy:

The weapon you are using will be more or less accurate based on your movement.

Whilst moving forward my sniper rifle is incredibly inaccurate
Whilst standing still my sniper rifle shoots in a perfectly straight line

Shields and shield capacity 🛡

Shields are an extra layer of protection for your player. There are 2 kinds of shield pickups to be found inside chests throughout the game, shield refills and shield capacity.

So what updates are we expected to see in the upcoming version?

We have added a lot of new features, including unique audio and music changes. For instance, each weapon now has a unique sound effect for firing it, and there is some new music to enjoy throughout the fight.

There have also been several system updates. One of them is an increase in camera distance, which will allow you to see a bit more during gameplay. Spectator cameras remain the same so you can join in on the action!

All specials and explosive weapon will now deal self damage if you are in the AOE. Be careful not to blow yourself up!

Furthermore, we have increased the time for shrinking circles in the third step from 10 seconds to 15 seconds, and we have reduced the maximum HP per tick from 20% to 15%.

Improvements 🔧

🔧 Improvements to Server and Game connection. Expect less problems when starting the game

🔧 Holding the aim stick whilst moving will no longer cause your player to shoot in the direction you are moving

🔧 Improved some UI screens to not be behind the notch in some devices

🔧 When full on a resource, floating text will now display “MAX” when trying to collect more of that resource

🔧 Improved weapon damage visuals to properly match the enemy damage taken animations

🔧 The minimap properly shows the red area surrounding the current zone as it moves

Weapons — Updates

We have created new weapon names!

Scattergun, Hunting Rifle, Assault Rifle, Carbine, and Daedalus

  • All weapon ranges have been reduced by 1 meter (aside from the hammer)

Weapons — Buffs

SMG: The smg is meant to be a fast moving spray and pray weapon that gets more powerful as you hold the trigger, so we are increasing the reward for holding the trigger

  • Aiming movement speed: 100% > 110%
  • Aiming accuracy: 45 degrees > 35 degrees
  • Ammo capacity: 200 shots > 300 shots
  • Attack speed ramp up time: 1 second > 0.8 second

Pistol: The pistol is meant to be a technical weapon that rewards players who can flick aim quickly, we are adding some extra damage to reward players, and upping the skill ceiling of the weapon

  • Aim time: 0.1 seconds > 0.05 seconds
  • Attack cooldown: 0.4 seconds > 0.3 seconds
  • Damage: +15%
  • Range: 7 meters > 8 meters

Laser Rifle: this weapon was a little underwhelming compared to the other rifles, so we’ve given it a little bump

  • Attack cooldown: 0.175 seconds > 0.16 seconds
  • Attack Range: 7 meters > 9 meters

Weapons — Nerfs

RPG: We are making the RPG a tad more inaccurate to make it a little less unfair to play against

  • RPG standing accuracy: 10 degrees >15 degrees
  • RPG moving accuracy: 25 degrees > 35 degrees
  • RPG damage: -10%

Grenade Launcher: You can now only shoot the grenade launcher 35 times from full ammo capacity

  • Max ammo capacity reduced: 50 shots > 35 shots
  • Splash damage radius reduced: 3 meters > 2.5 meters
  • Attack Cooldown: 0.4 cooldown > 0.55 seconds

Plasma cannon: This weapon is in an alright state, but we are pulling splash damage down across the board

  • Splash radius reduced: 2.5 meters > 2 meters

Sniper rifle: Snipers are overall packing too much of a punch for their accuracy and range

  • Name: “Sniper rifle” > “Sniper”
  • Aim time: 0.3 seconds > 0.4 seconds
  • Damage: -20%

Pulse Rifle: The pulse rifle just shoots too fast, and hits too consistently when moving

  • Attack cooldown: 0.4 seconds > 0.5 seconds
  • Moving accuracy: 15 degrees > 25 degrees

Bugfixes 🐛

🐛 Airdrops no longer spawn in the red zone or too late in the game, and the matchmaking map has been updated to more closely reflect your drop location choice

🐛 A bug that crashed the game when spectators entered a match, as well as an issue where the game ended early if the player left the match have been fixed.

🐛 Fixed an issue where picking up certain weapons and opening a loot crate would crash the game

🐛 Various minimap issues have been resolved, such as text on the screen when watching spectating players, the minimap not showing a proper texture, shrinking circle information in games, and the minimap for airdrops after reconnecting

In addition to these fixes and improvements, the full patch notes will be published tomorrow with the game.
