Development Diary Part 1 — Creating the Fun Factor
Hi Everyone! My name is Anil and I am one of the Co-Founders at First Light Games, the team behind Blast Royale. As an avid gamer myself and big Blockchain enthusiast, I love to know what’s going on with projects I’ve invested in so I can get excited about them. So for that reason, I though I’d let you know how development on our game is going and what you can expect!
We’ll be making one of these posts every month, but if you’d like to find out more, why not join the official Blast Royale Discord group for more information!
Introducing the Battle Map!
This month our primary focus has been on adding our Battle Royale map to the game. You may have seen some of the videos of footage from our game on our Website and Whitepaper, and whilst those visuals are representative of the final game, they don’t yet make up our all important battlefield.
Our art director John has therefore been working on and refining the 5x5 battle arena that you’ll be fighting against other players in. He’s tried to create lots of variety within the map so that dropping in different regions is fresh and fun each time you play, whilst also making sense from a visual cognition perspective.
As you can see from the visuals above, sometimes views are truly epic and jaw-dropping! But don’t spend too long admiring the visuals, because picking which location to drop into on the map is extremely important to your overall strategy. Do you decide to drop in areas where more pickups might be present so you can power up your character, or do you avoid the risk of being taken out early by doing so!? Decisions, decisions!
Talking of dropping into the Battlefield, that’s a very important part of Battle Royale games, and John has also been doing some demo work in terms of how that experience should play out:
Here you can see a character paragliding into the Battle Map, ready for action! This part of the game needs a lot more love, but I still wanted to share with you a little bit of what we are up to and how games look and feel like when they are in development.
As for what’s coming next, there are a few things brewing!
- NFT Design and Showcase
- Pickups and consumables for in-battle
- UX adjustments for player messaging and gameplay
This is just the start of our development diaries, and we hope to go into more detail soon! We are also planning AMA’s, early access playtests to some lucky community members and live streams with the development team. Stay tuned for more updates!
